Friederike (Fritzi) Lang is the Head of the Soil Ecology chair at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität of Freiburg. She is internationally recognized for her experience in forest nutrition, soil formation, and biogeochemistry of forest soils. Her works have made important contributions to our understanding of the interactions between soil processes and forest ecosystem functioning, with particular emphasis on carbon sequestration, nutrient mobilisation, acid and contamination buffering. Her most recent publications deal with the destiny of various forms of phosphorus in forest soils as a function of forest management, climatic factors, tree root and canopy characteristics. Her research always aimed at enhancing soil and forest protection, with a strong societal commitment. To this aim she contributes to political consulting and interdisciplinary committees work, as a member of advisory boards and priority programs.
